We first showed you the teaser shot a few weeks back, then the press release accidentally went live a short time later. But now here it is in the flesh for all you Honda-headed fan boys -- the all-new 2009 Acura TSX -- powerful double plenum grille (same as that found on the new 2009 Acura RL ) and all. The new TSeXiness is supposedly "more agile and more powerful than ever before" and that seems to be the case given the DOHC i-VTEC in-line 4-cylinder producing 201 HP and 172 lb-ft of torque with the manny tranny. read more »
You know the last name. This is the other racer from Scotland's contribution to American motorsport. Marino is young, enthusiastic, driven and, to top it all, has kept a vivid sense of humor. After learning that the second-place Acura had been disqualified, he told me he was going over to their truck to trade his third-place trophy for theirs. Now that's a racer.
ec: Let's start with the most obvious topic, the major differences between your ride last year in an Acura-powered LMP2 to this season's Porsche RS Spyder. And don't get all politically correct on us. read more »
WASHINGTON -- The insurance industry named dozens of new cars and trucks, led by Ford Motor Co. and its Volvo subsidiary, to its annual list of the safest vehicles Tuesday, helped by the increased use of anti-rollover technology.
Ford and Volvo had 16 vehicles in the 2009 model year on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's list of the safest new cars, followed by Honda Motor Co. with 13 vehicles.
Seventy-two cars, trucks and SUVs received the top safety pick designation for 2009, more than double the number of vehicles in the 2008 model year and three times the number in 2007.
"The sheer number of this year's winners indicates that automakers have made huge strides to improve crash protection," said Institute president Adrian Lund. read more »

Think of this column as a sign that a change is going to come. And while this is happening far from the firms in Munich, Stuttgart, Ingolstadt, etc., they will be the ones affected in the long run. The outcome of this will be a truly worldwide offering of some superlative cars as the outer limits are explored and developed.
A few months ago, I had lunch with a recently retired honcho who has a firm grip on German automotive reality and is still on the company payroll as a consultant. This is the usual manner of keeping the inner circle loyal and not allowing that knowledge to end up in a competitor's camp. As we walked out to the parking lot, I was surprised to see him getting into a new Lexus LS. "Hey, what are you doing in that POS?" was my comment. His reply was a revelation: "It's a great car and I don't have time to deal with any issues." read more »
Engineers from Honda were spotted in the California night testing what appears to be a new Acura sport-crossover, not unlike the Infiniti FX35 and BMW X6. Despite extensive camo inside and out, the low-slung crossover had wheels and tires more appropriate for handling than off-roading, and upscale cues that tend to signal this is an Acura model rather than a new Honda. That SRX-like rear is likely fake, with the actual vehicle having a heavily sloped rear silhouette. Full spy report after the jump. read more »
The 2009 Honda Pilot shares a platform with the '07 Acura MDX, starting at a lower price, with simpler features, seating 8 people. It also features a new Variable Cylinder Management system, which means the engine, can run on 6, 4 or 3 cylinders. The looks draw heavily on classic American SUV design themes, but improve upon them in a clean, contemporary way. Just look at the area behind the C-pillars for instance; it resembles what the Jeep Liberty should have looked like. read more »
