Over at PSA Peugeot Citroen CEO Christian Streiff is well aware that introducing more upscale products helps the whole group become more profitable. For Peugeot, the 308 RCZ two-seater production concept is a clue. It will be a vital statement of brand intent when the production version goes on sale later this year. The Renault Kangoo better watch its back, as Citroen and Peugeot are on the scene with their new diesel-powered MPV's: the Berlingo and Partner, respectively. Both get power courtesy of a 110 horsepower Hdi Diesel engine, which features a particulate filter that keeps the exhaust cleaner-than-nornal. Each model also comes with its own Light Commercial Van (LCV) version and fussy European child. Citroen and Peugeot have been present in the Chinese market since 1992, and have a small range of cars to show for it. Starting with the Chinese Citroen C2 (a Peugeot 206 with Citroen badge), Fukang, Xsara Picasso, C-Triomphe and the Elysee while the remainder is imported from Europe (C4 Coupe, C5 saloon and C6). Today Citroen unveiled a new model for China, the Citroen C-Elysee which is based on the Elysee but with 300 perceivable improvements in regards to styling, quality and technology. The Citroen C-Elysee will have its official show debut at the upcoming 2008 Auto China in Beijing. The new C-Elysee comes in three trim levels and five versions, all powered by the 1.6i 16V engine. Citroen has graced the C-Elysee with its new front end design, aswell as new wheels and three-dimensional rear lights. Citroen has put as many gadgets into the budget car as possible, like ABS brakes, while a Bluetooth audio system, 6 CD hard-disk jukebox and USB socket are optional.  read more »

Marketing and selling large premium cars isn't all that easy for the French outside of France. The German brands have something of a stranglehold - in Europe, especially. PSA is developing what it believes is a credible strategy - 'competitive premium' - essentially levering off the volume business on component sets to produce a low-cost premium offering in each segment and undercutting the established premium brands.  read more »

We spotted this miniature woody, a Fiat 500 C Giardiniera Belvedere, while passing through Charlevoix, Michigan. Ironically, it's still not the coolest car in town, as this place is also home to the awesome V8-powered Citroen 2CV off-roader we found at Autorama. The lakeside town is popular destination for Michiganders engaging in the summer tradition of vacationing "up north." As such, the ice cream-licking tourists were all over this little Fiat. It's hard (for me at least) to tell exactly what year this one is, but I'd say an early '50s model, as '55 was the last year for the original 500. These 'C' models were the final iterations of what many people know simply as the "Topolino," which started production in 1936. Of course, the iconic Fiat 500 that most people know was the rear-engined bubble that later came along in place of these originals. But the Topolino was no ass-engined VW-wannabe.  read more »
