2008-JCW-Mini-Clubman-S.jpgIn addition to the just revealed 2008 JCW Mini Cooper S , we've also got some great shots below of the new 2008 JCW Mini Cooper Clubman S. It's the first time JCW's gotten a hold of the Clubman, and the photos look great -- better even the faux JCW Mini Cooper Clubman S we'd seen already. Unfortunately, we won't have a press release for a few more minutes so for the time being you'll just have to make do with the shots we've got below. All we can tell so far is it's got similar badging to the more-mini Mini.  read more »

BMW Assist, Google Maps Introduce "MyInfo" Service For New Big-Ass X6 [2008 BMW X6]

The image associated with this post is best viewed using a browser. BMW's teaming up with everyone's favorite mapping monopoly, Google Maps, to bring a new addition to the BMW Assist Safety Plan. It's called "MyInfo," and it's a service which, in addition to sounding hip and techie-cool through deletion of the spaces in the name, will allow BMW Assist subscribers to send business locations, street addresses and their associated phone numbers to their car via some magical connection between the two companies databases. Look at it kind of like a way to use their ConnectedDrive feature from your home. You may already have intimate knowledge of what that's like if you've ever opened up a browser and spent any time at Google's "Local Search" page.  read more »

BMW Concept 1-Series tii to Make North American Debut in Chicago [Chicago Auto Show]

bmw_1series_tii.jpgIt debuted at the Tokyo motor show last October. Now, the BMW 1-Series concept that lit a magnesium fire in our naughty bits is coming to Chicago. Officially, it's the BMW Concept 1-Series tii; unofficially, it's several shades of Teutonic radness. Let me count the ways: It recalls the heady days of mid-period BMW road racing, evokes the original (E30) M3 and cribs its halo from the early '70s BMW 2002 tii.  read more »

MINI E Electric Mini Re-Revealed, Now With Technical Images [LA Auto Show]

With a numbered limited edition of only about 500 and a one year lease price of about $820, the MINI E won't be finding a whole lot of takers, but its still a car that will attract a lot of interest. The two seat all-electric car delivers 204 HP and 162 lb-ft of torque and runs on 28 kWh of a 35 kWh capacity battery made of 5,088 individual lithium ion cells and will take the MINI E a full 156 miles before a recharge at it's dedicated wall box is needed — a scant two and a half hours for that job! Acceleration is a brisk but not blinding 8.5 seconds to 62 MPH and top speed comes when you reach 95 MPH. With such low production numbers, this MINI is more of a field test for the real life of an electric car and the results will be used in future vehicle developments. Complete details below along with a nice rant if you scroll all the way down.  read more »

2009 BMW 7-Series Thinks It's KITT, Has Human-Detecting Night Vision [2009 BMW 7-series]

Although we showed you the new 2009 BMW 7-Series in all of its unofficial glory on Thursday. Well, now we've got the official details from BMW, and we've included the full press release for the new 7-Series after the jump. Sure, focus all you want on the horsepower (407 HP in the 750i and 750Li, 326 HP in the 740i and 740Li) or the torque (600 Nm of torque in the 750i and 750Li, 450 Nm of torque in the 740i and 740Li) or even the 155 MPH electronically-limited top speed, but the one thing that's sticking out in our minds is the new "individual pedestrian recognition" night vision system.  read more »

2009 BMW Model MSRP Releases

BMW has released the MSRP for all of the 2009 model line-up for North America including the pricing and new option package details. The car in the lowest end is the 128i Coupe which comes in at $29,200. On the high end was the brand new M6 Convertible for a hefty $107,500. As far as options, it looks like a heated steering wheel is going to become part of most cold weather packages, and Active Steering will no longer be available on 128i or 328i/xi models. Finally, if you want a double-clutch gearbox on your M3, youll need to pony up an extra $200 in addition to the base manual transmission option cost of $2,700.  read more »

Slice and Dice - 2008 Lotus Exige S 240, 2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe, 2008 Porsche Cayman S
3 real Sports Cars - Slice and Dice - 2008 Lotus Exige S 240, 2008 BMW Z4 M Coupe, 2008 Porsche Cayman S - European Car Magazine

Like everything else in the modern automotive realm, the term `sports car' seems to have a pretty subjective definition. Ask 10 different people what a real sports car is and you'd probably get 10 different interpretations.

Still, it's hard to argue that the three cars featured here are anything but. Each shares a common trait or two: rear-wheel drive, sharp handling, a favorable power-to-weight ratio and a fixed-roof cockpit equipped with two seats.  read more »
