We're one step closer now to the beginning of the 2008 Rally New Zealand. This is my first ever WRC event in person, and so I'm excited enough o want to be present for every second of the cars running. Today the cars all ran from 8AM-12PM for shakedown. WRC, then PWRC, and finally the front-wheel drive JWRC cars. They're all amazing vehicles. read more »
Thanks to a generous offer from Subaru, our trip sponsor, we're in New Zealand for the final round of the '08 World Rally Championship season. Ken Block, Rally America sensation, is in town for competition in the Production WRC (PWRC) class of the WRC. He was originally scheduled to debut with a new 2008 STI rally car and we would be able to follow its debut, but the car got held up in production. The new car didn't make it out to NZ. read more »

George Darling's 1988 Porsche Turbo 951In 1988, three years into production of its 217hp 944 Turbo (951), Porsche released the 951 S with a 250hp engine that later became standard on all '89 951 models. It was easily one of the top 10 fastest cars on sale at the time, netting acceleration numbers close to the likes of the Lamborghini Countach, Ferrari Testarossa, Porsche 911 Turbo, and Lotus Esprit. And thanks to a vast aftermarket industry catering specifically to this model, numerous 951 and 951 S cars on the road are fast even by today's standards. This red one, owned by George Darling, is one of the elite. read more »
Though recently leaked patent renderings for the 2010 Mazda MX-5 reveal a fairly conservative refresh, designers and engineers are working on a radical change for the next all-new version of the Miata. In an interview with Autocar, Lauren Van den Acker, design boss for Mazda, comes right out and says the next all new Miata is going to make waves. Volkswagen is showing up in style to the Dusseldorf Caravan Salon with the Topos Caddy Sail Design Concept, a version of their Caddy commercial van converted to mimic the style and functionality of a sailboat. Rather than just adding some pinstripes and wood siding, the Topos Sail concept has a working wooden deck with aluminum rails. The deck bends to to make a convenient place to lay out and enjoy the sailing, but the most trick piece might actually be the wooden ladder built-into the glass that makes the roof accessible. A wooden deck roof is at least 1,000 times cooler than a gold-plated roof , and much classier. Press release below the jump. The Caddy Topos Sail Design Concept - A Caddy With a Boat Deck! read more »

It used to mean something to own a Ferrari or Lamborghini. They were cars for special occasions. Just to see one on the street was a talking point. Now they're everyday, usable machines that prowl certain bonus-riding, city-boy-ridden quarters of our country like rats. An F430 or Gallardo doesn't stand out any more. In the wealth centers of the world, a rusting Miata would grab more gazes. That's why Hamann Motorsport stepped in to give both cars some added plumage and flash, to reinstate the impact that's been lost to the mass market. read more »

The current Quattroporte was launched in 2004, the fifth Maserati sports sedan to wear this badge. Designed by Pininfarina, it's not only a fine Maserati, but also a pretty good car by any standards. Striking the balance between formal elegance and a sporty attitude, it makes its German rivals-even the suave Jaguar XJR-look rather staid. read more »
Hot on the heels of Kicherer's tuning package for the Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG, Bo of Sportbilen.se sent us an exclusive first look he captured recently of another tuning package for the new AMG-powered roadster: the Carlsson CK63. Packing an impressive 565 horsepower, the Carlsson CK63 is capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 4.3 seconds (identical to that of the Kicherer), while top speed comes in at a more-than-sufficient 201 mph. As for styling, the CK63 boasts the usual array of Carlsson accents. A new front spoiler, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and grille insert are all present, as are 20-inch ultra light wheels. Carlsson's sport suspension and exhaust systems have also been added, improving the model's handling and audible note, while a Carlsson leather interior ensures a luxurious-yet-sporty cockpit by which to pilot your beloved SL.
Why you should buy the 2008 Infiniti G37S : You've just been made junior partner at your law firm. You want to go fast, but you don't necessarily need to go the fastest. You want a car that handles well, but it's not like you're going to autocross it. You care about looking good but could care less if you look tough. You've got some change, but you don't want to spend all of it on a car. Why you shouldn't buy this car: You've just been made to chug a pitcher of Spaten Lager after being unable to name all the goalies of the previous four German World Cup teams. It is important that you be the fastest. It is more important to you that a car feels right than looks good. Price is no object. Well... price is an object, but you're willing to spend a little more and eat sugar packets for a week to get automotive perfection.
